Have you ever found yourself annoyed by the inability to find an answer to a seemingly simple question? Do you find it frustrating when information that should be readily available is obscured by inconsistencies, or fragmentation, or bad APIs? You work in technology, so it’s a fair bet that you have, and you do.
At Stronghold we organize information, and answer questions, about the real world:
Where is there currently an excess of assets (solar panels, energy production, large-scale advertising space), and where is there a deficit?
We think in three dimensions, so we may be looking at air rights over a city, or the locations of wind turbines on farmland, or rock formations under the surface of the Earth. We work with geologists, GIS professionals, and loads of data providers to make simple questions have simple (or simpler) answers.
Our values are simple: success comes from creativity and diversity of ideas, everyone has something to contribute, and everyone has more to learn. We work hard every day to recognize and appreciate the individual style and expertise, strengths and goals of each employee, while focusing on the success of the team as a whole. We believe learning and mentorship are essential aspects of software development, and incorporate both into every aspect of what we do; we care far less about what you know than what you can think up. We vigorously share ideas, seek feedback, and act on it. If being a part of, and contributing to, a successful, creative, and effective team is your idea of a good day’s work, then we’d love to have you join us.
We mean it when we say we care less about what you know than what you can think up. If something in the previous paragraph made your heart beat a little bit faster, then let’s talk. If you are curious, enthusiastic, open minded, and thrive on collaboration, let’s talk.
If you have many years of experience and/or specific areas of expertise, we have lots of mentorship and leadership opportunities. Let’s talk.
If you’re just starting your career in software and have no experience, but you have a passion for learning and a desire to contribute, we need your creativity and fresh viewpoint. Let’s talk.
Everyone has something to contribute, and everyone has more to learn. Everyone on our team is open to learning, and passionate about helping others learn. Everything else about your role is flexible; maybe you can teach us something new about what a software development role should involve.
We have a diverse set of problems to solve, and a seemingly infinite list of domains in which to work. You may find yourself building detailed maps with diverse GIS information, or working on a sophisticated front-end user experience using React, or transforming data using SQL, or interacting with any number of external services using Ruby, or creating a new API using Rails, or optimizing search results using Elasticsearch, or working on something we haven’t even thought of yet using a technology we haven’t used yet.
The best solution to any problem may depend on an idea that you have, so let’s talk. We don’t need to hire people who think just like us — we already work here. We need to hire you, so we can enrich our team with your unique knowledge and experience. To that end we strongly encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to, race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, national origin, religion, disability, and veteran status.
If you’re interested in joining our team, submit your answers to these questions and we will be in touch with you within a few days.
